The Founder and Chief Scientist, Joel D. Simon, holds a Ph.D. in Geophysics from Princeton University, where he developed and published novel approaches for detecting and classifying signals in noisy data.
He spent five years at Princeton overseeing a global array of mobile marine MERMAID sensors while advancing the field through peer-reviewed publications and scientific software development. His software remains in active use worldwide.
He serves on the Executive Committee of the International Federation of Digital Seismograph Networks and chairs Working Group V, focusing on mobile geophysical instrumentation.
He continues to consult for the Department of Geosciences at Princeton University and EarthScope-Oceans as a member of the Standing Committee on Data.
